Elixir Mixer – A Spooky Fraction Matching Game

As a UI/UX designer, I contributed to Elixir Mixer, a fast-paced, spooky, and educational game that helps students practice and reinforce their fraction skills. In the game, players step into the shoes of a quirky witch who must create potions to cure her patients from wacky diseases. The game’s engaging mechanics, combined with its whimsical visuals, create a fun and effective learning experience.

Concept & Preproduction

In the early stages, I was involved in creating storyboards and mockups to visualize the game flow and overall design. These initial materials were crucial in helping the team understand the vision and set the foundation for the game. The storyboards depicted key gameplay elements, such as potion-making and matching fractions, while the mockups helped map out the user interface (UI). By laying out the core mechanics and game flow early on, I was able to align closely with the developers, ensuring they had a clear understanding of the design requirements for smooth development.

Design & Production

During production, I focused on designing the game’s UI and developing its visual assets. I created custom graphics and animations that enhanced the playful and spooky atmosphere of the game. This included designing potion ingredients, quirky patients, and animated interactions that brought the world of Elixir Mixer to life. The UI was designed to be intuitive and accessible for students of varying ages, ensuring an engaging yet educational experience.

The visual design not only needed to be fun and captivating, but it also had to support the game’s core goal: helping players practice fractions. I carefully balanced the educational aspects with engaging visuals to ensure that learning was both effective and enjoyable.

Collaboration & Outcome

The early storyboarding and mockups played a key role in keeping the project on track and in sync with the developers. My collaboration with the development team ensured that the design vision was accurately translated into a fully functional game, which has proven to be both a fun and educational tool for students.

Through this project, I was able to combine my love for design with my passion for educational technology, creating an interactive, visually engaging game that delivers value to players while supporting their learning journey.
